A Real American Hero - A review of Captain America.

Captain America Punches Hitler in the Face, nuff said.

Let's start with what was terrible.  Some of the CG for when Red Skull's real face is revealed is poor.  There is a scene just before Steve jumps from a car to a plane that is so random and so out of character that it does nothing but distract.  And that's about it.

Captain America is the story of a man.  A man who can not get into the army for Asthma and smallness.  But he has heart.  And honor.  And so a scientist finds him the perfect choice for a super soldier program.

The most important part about this movie is that Chris Evans proves that he was the right man for this job.  He brings heart and he brings a gentleness to little Steve that makes him clearly the best canidate.  And then he manages to prove that he is Captain America.  Uniquely this film establishes the persona of Captain America before he becomes Captain America.  And it is Steve trying emmulate his own legend that allows him to become the hero we all know he could be.

All of our supporting players do a great job playing their roles, but there is one actor in paticular I want to highlight.  Stanely Tucci.  His role as Dr. Erksine was inspired.  He had a kind, gentleness to him that made him feel like he wanted to find someone who was Honorable for the super Soldier program.  and it is clear that he had issues with the Skull.

The plot is fun, and feels like an Indiana Jones adventure movie more than Saving Private Bucky.  It is the kind of movie you walk out of talking about because you had such a good time watching it.

I should talk about the book end moments, but I'm not going to.  They did it right and that's all you need to know.

Lastly, there is supposed to be a Avengers Teaser, but my press screening didn't have it.  And boy did the audience get up in arms about it.

I just need to say that the film  gets more than enough right.  It is the most faithful adaptation of a Superhero yet.  I'd say it is more faithful than Sin City.  See this movie.  I give it an A.
